Trajectories explores weaving as queering spatiality. The praxis takes broken cabling and uses self-taught basket weaving techniques to transform a two-dimensional landscape into three-dimensional places.

Deleuze and Guattari refer to weaving as the most striated – or controlled/measured – form of “nomad art” as there is no space to aerate within the confines of a tightly woven square. As described in A Thousand Plateaus (1980), nomad art applies the characteristics of land and space to textile formats.

The sculptures aim to reclaim what is described as a striated and transform it into
something smooth or nomadic where it can be permeated, creating cracks where spatial tensions emerge.
The materials address a feeling of artificiality in relation to cultural identity as well as an
interdependence between digital places, cultural heritage, queerness, and community.

Trajectories refers to nomadic trajectories described by Delueze and Guattari where vectors,
such as hurricanes, travel across striated or smooth planes.
The works are then observing blurred lines between striated and smooth spatialities,
the cracks within them, as well as the vectors that travel through them.

Gabriella Presnal (b.2001, they/them) is a Finnish-American artist having previously lived in Sweden,
Canada, Denmark, and the U.S. Conceptually, they draw upon philosophies surrounding spatiality,
publicness, and cultural memory. Alongside their own cultural background, an integral influence to their
work has been Deleuze and Guattari’s nomad art wherein they apply the characteristics of spaces to textile methods.
For Presnal, multidisciplinary textiles then become a model for subverting, warping, and molding spaces.

Ongoing and upcoming works (summer 2026) from Presnal are currently with Amos Rex (Generation 2026),
an upcoming project as apart of the City of Seinäjoki’s Kesäkuvataiteilija, ArtOulu2026 (performance programming),
a performance at Forum Box for their first After Hours event (21.5), and the Rihmasto / Rhizome group exhibition at Taidelaitos Haihatus (Joutsa).
They have a history of exhibiting primarily in Finland as well as group exhibitions and festivals abroad,
for example, in Brazil, Australia, Korea, Italy, Slovenia, and more. They have recently graduated from a dual masters
degree program in Nordic Visual Studies and Art Education from Aalto University and Aalborg University (Denmark).
