European Film WeeksThe 10th anniversary of the European Film Weeks is here! The European Commission Representation and the European Parliament Liaison Office in Finland invite you to enjoy films from all over Europe between 9 and 18 December. The films are shown in the original language with subtitles in English. Attendance is free of charge, the films are shown in Eurooppasali (Malminkatu 16, 00100 Helsinki) and there are seats for 100 people.

The theme of the European Film Weeks 2022 is “Solidarity and human rights”. The programme this year contains 23 films from the European Union and the guest of honour of the festival, Ukraine. From eye-opening documentaries to heartbreaking dramas, many of the films are the result of cooperation between multiple countries and dedicated work across borders. Many of the films on our programme have received prestigious awards in their respective countries and internationally.

HOUSE WITHOUT ROOF

House Without Roof is about the journey of the siblings LIYA, JAN and ALAN who were born in the Kurdish area of the Iraq and grown up in Germany. The three of them want to fulfill their mother`s last wish to bury her in her home village beside her husband who got killed in the war under Saddam Hussein regime. On their nerve-wracking Kurdish-odyssey they are not only faced with their Kurdish extended family that does not accept the last wish of their mother but particularly with their own matters. In recent years they distanced from each other – everybody runs his own life – and whenever they are holding talks, they are mostly based on reproaches. In parallel with the run of their journey it is noticeably that in their home country the dimension of an awful conflict, that nobody can surmise, is heading for disaster.
