The delicate and nuanced architecture of the internationally awarded Belgian architect Marie José Van Hee will conquer the museum from February 2025. The exhibition invites you to get to know the home designed by the architect, whose living areas are built into the space in its true scale. As a counterbalance to the hustle and bustle of the city, Van Hee invites you to step into the peace of a quiet space and experience it with all your senses.
In Marie José Van Hee’s architecture, deep local knowledge is combined with human scale, and restrained materials find their place in insightful layouts. The desired final result is created gradually by drawing by hand and fitting ideas into place. The whole is surprising and unexpected. In Van Hee’s architecture, indoor and outdoor space are closely the same.
Marie José Van Hee, who has worked as an architect for a long time, graduated from the Sint-Lucas School of Architecture in 1974. She founded her own architectural office in Ghent in 1990. Van Hee’s work varies from private houses to public spaces and cultural buildings. He has also worked as a visiting professor and critic at several universities.Van Hee’s extraordinary ambition as a designer of life and everyday environments has brought him several prestigious recognitions, most recently the Alvar Aalto medal in August 2024.
