Maritta Meckelborg is a visual artist living and working in Tuusula. His working techniques include various forms of painting and printmaking. Painting with watercolors has become an increasingly important form of art. The starting point of his works is the everyday, views within the reach of walks and cycling trips, nature.

” Sivuppolkuja exhibition is born from pictorial notes: remembering, imagining, drawings, photographs, quick watercolor paintings in a notebook.

I have taken my notes in the study to work into large watercolor paintings and woodcuts. Just like on my little walks in the familiar nearby woods, I also drift off to side paths to more interesting views when I’m working, I give myself permission to get lost while doing my paintings and engravings. When painting watercolors, some branch or rhizome gets carried away and I drift from the original route to side paths. I build my paintings in layers, utilizing the possibilities of watercolors. I also leave blank spaces in my work. I wash my work if necessary, the trace of the work leaves my thoughts visible, but hidden a little under the painted. I enjoy these working moments, getting lost on side paths, with a big piece of paper. Watercolor lends itself to the same possibilities as other painting materials, being airy and light,

Thanks to Tuusula’s cultural organization and the culture and leisure board for supporting the exhibition.
