Join us for the opening ceremony on Wednesday, 19 April, from 17–19.

Opening remarks:
Juhani Räisänen, Chair, MUU
Minka Heino, Deputy Chair, MUU

A professionally and socially active artist, Markus Renvall passed away at the end of last January. Talkative and with an easy laugh, Markus was an uncomplicated person to work with. Constantly coming up with ideas, inventing and developing new things, Markus was perfectly at home in the art world and had a well-informed view on everything.

Community was important to Markus Renvall. One of his guiding principles was that making art and looking at art has a healing effect. He said that “when people come together, everyone has something to contribute.” Markus challenged us to think in new ways and from new perspectives. Once you got to know Markus, you began to understand his extensive contribution to Finnish art.

Markus Renvall’s notable projects included Rohto, Straight-on-Medicine art – Art for Young Men, which was presented internationally in Russia, Norway and elsewhere; The Ball Show, produced together with Seppo Renvall and exhibited internationally (1998–2008); Head Spinning, Art on Bikes (2008–2014) and the Mediaplay concept, which became part of the official curriculum at Kirkkonummi municipality.

Markus Renvall also had a long career as a board member in a number of organisations. In addition to MUU, over the years he sat in the boards of the Finnish Artists’ Association, Helsinki International Artist Programme, visual arts copyright society Kuvasto, M-cult agency, AV-arkki centre for Finnish media art, and the Finnish Media Art Network. Markus was an active cultural policy debater, and a member of the Finnish Parliament’s Arkadia Culture Society.

Finished and Last-Minute Videos on Monday, 24 April, at 18:00. The event is hosted by artists Hanne Ivars and Hannes Renvall.

Helsinki Art Walk guided tour will start on the last day of the Renvall exhibition on Sunday, 30 April, at 13:30.

Admission to the exhibition and all events is free.
