Water connects, water has memory, and water is capable of transporting and transforming these memories across time and space. Similarly, aquariums are connected to the idea of belonging and have an intrinsic relation with water. This exhibit invites the audience to reflect on life changes, remembrances, transitions, and connections to important others. By displaying the sea and aquariums as the main elements, Paola creates visual representations of her personal connection with her siblings. The aquariums transform into three wombs that travel across the ocean in search of new horizons, new journeys, new endeavors.

Paola Fernanda Guzmán Figueroa, based and working in Helsinki, engages in film, analog experimentations, animation, installations, and performances. Her art reflects and raises questions about boundaries, family, and aging. In Guzmán Figueroa’s works, situations, stories, and bodies are in constant motion, and the threads between past and present become more apparent and stronger. Guzmán Figueroa graduated with a Master’s in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2022.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous venues. Time Travel was presented at Governors Island, New York City (2023), CICA Museum, South Korea (2022) and El Retiro Park, Madrid (2020). Mommy say something to the camera, mom! has been showcased at Doclisboa International Film Festival (2023) and Nanita, para siempre was exhibited at the Cultural Centre Gabriel García Márquez, Bogotá (2022) and Oodi Helsinki Central Library (2023). Paola has recently participated in residencies at Saari Residence, Finland, and Residency Unlimited, New York, supported by The Finnish Cultural Institute.
