Something soft sways in the space.
It wobbles and swirls, inviting you into its fluttering dance.
I want to wrap myself around it,
to merge into the sinking tangle.

The works in the exhibition are snapshots of the movement of a mass of lines —fragments of its stretching and swelling essence. In these works, the line struggles free only to be caught again, captured as glimpses of the various stages of its meandering choreography.

During the working process, the line undergoes a transformation: the original pencil drawing grows into a print several dozen times larger. The printing process not only enlarges the trace but also reshapes its essence—something new and hazy, perhaps painterly, emerges from the drawings. The printing inks, self-mixed from gum arabic tempera and pigment, give the work a gloss and a sweet, sticky scent. The screen-printed works combine the softness of a drawing, a muted color palette, and swaying motion into a whole that is at once still and constantly in motion.

Miina Aho (b. 1990) is a Helsinki-based visual artist who explores the relationship between trace and medium and the interface between the drawn and the printed. Her recent work has been inspired by the materiality of colour and play with line proportions and spatiality. Aho graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2022. She is a member of the Kalasataman seripaja and the Association of Finnish Printmakers. Aho’s works have been exhibited in several joint and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad, and her works have been acquired for the Finnish State Art Collection, the HUS Art Collection, and the Finnish Art Society collection. Spinning Waltz at Galleria G is her fifth solo show.
