A parked make-out car is a melancholic symbol of short northern summers. Fogged windows, and music pulses like a heartbeat. A heavy bass obscures the sounds within, yet a passerby is momentarily pulled into a private moment. Passion in public space can raise uneasy questions.
In these times when the world is steaming with hate, Artist Collective Kunst’s make-out car becomes a tribute to love. It celebrates the anarchic, all-embracing force of passion.
Artist Collective Kunst holds performative interventions during the exhibition. The pulse of passion is maintained by five Makeout Moderators.
Taiteilijakollektiivi Kunst
Playful anarchism, carnivalesque activism, social themes, and participatory multimedia unite the artistic practices of Artist Collective Kunst. The collective is a multidisciplinary action group and collaborative unit that produces cross-disciplinary exhibitions and performative interventions. Their shared authorship challenges traditional, subject-centered notions of the artist.
The collective was awarded the Uusimaa Art Prize in 2018 for its work in the field of contemporary art at Galleria Lapinlahti. Artist Collective Kunst’s artwork has been exhibited in Finland and abroad.
Members of Artist Collective Kunst are: Christina Holmlund, Pia Paldanius, Sirpa Päivinen, Anu Suhonen, and Julia Weckman.
This exhibition is a first of a series of art shows celebrating the 10th anniversary of Artist Collective Kunst.
The exhibition is supported by the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
