At the Perm Regional Museum, the entomological collection is fumigated twice a year. While the insects in the collection are already dead, living insects outside of it are dangerous. Some of them, most notably the Museum Beetle, eat away at the specimens. At Axel Straschnoy‘s request, the museum collected the exterminated insects, arranging them into a new collection. The Permian Collection reflects on the natural history museum’s role in the Anthropocene, addressing the museum both as a biotype and an agent of change. It exists as an entomological subcollection at the Perm Regional Museum and, now, as a book. For the book launch, Curator and Art Historian Katarina Lopatkina, Professor Emeritus Jyrki Muona and Artist Axel Straschnoy will converse on the issues addressed by the project.

The book was possible through the support of Taike and SKR-Varsinais Suomi.
