Brookes makes comics and writes about comics. He is currently working on a PhD at the University of the Arts London, exploring comics, reproduction, and materiality.

The works in the exhibition span a ten-year period and include original artwork from the books The Dancing Plague, Threadbare, A Thousand Coloured Castles, and Home.

These works are made using processes such as embroidery and pyrography, and are produced using unusual materials such as charcoal, paper napkins, textiles, wax, and fire.
