My exhibition Go Figure opens the door to the complex moods of a new human relationship. I explore the dynamics of human relationships in playful and curious tones, dealing with the spectrum of emotions – confusion, love and irritation – and their alternation and merging. In my colorful paintings, unexpectedness and constant movement are emphasized, which define connection and growth between people.
In my works, I use well-known symbols and archetypes, through which individual experiences are connected to wider social phenomena. Postmodern thinkers such as Jean Baudrillard and Gilles Deleuze have influenced the background of my works, especially reflections on the limits of reality and artificiality and the development of human relationships. The digitally influenced paintings on display in the exhibition explore the interfaces between personal and collective themes. They encourage the viewer to reflect on human interaction, search for meanings and explore the nuances of connection.
The exhibited works have been created during the last two years, and their creation has been supported by the Art Promotion Center.
The colorful paintings of Einari Hyvönen (b. 1989, Salo) engage in a dialogue with digital imagery, drawing archetypes from popular culture and mixing themes from art history with contemporary references. Crossing imagery allows the viewer new ways to interpret images familiar from popular culture and find deeper meanings for them. His artistic goals aim to deal with current global and personal crises and issues, without entering the world of dystopia and despair.
Hyvönen lives in Helsinki and graduated with a master’s degree in fine arts from the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts in 2021. Hyvönen has held exhibitions widely in Finland and across Europe. His most recent solo exhibitions include Penultimate Lap at Makasiini Contemporary, Turku (2024) and It Takes Two at Galleria Halmetoja, Helsinki (2023). Hyvönen’s joint exhibitions are on display at international venues, such as Kingdom Tuesday to Friday Gallery in Valencia (2024), What Happened? At Gärna Gallery in Madrid (2024) and The Way of All Flesh at Saatchi Gallery, London (2024). Hyvönen’s works have been acquired in the collections of Kiasma, the State Works of Art Commission, the Päivi and Paavo Lipponen fund, and the Oulu and Tampere art museums.
