Gallery Halmetoja’s year is opened with Kari Huhtamo’s 80th Birthday Exhibition. This colourful exhibition includes both older graphic art and new sculptures. Kari Huhtamo, known for his large public sculptures located around Finland, has focused on honing his original idiom, crystallizing it in a subtle form that is fully complete but not academic or a slave to any isms. Having grown up in the world of Modernism, Huhtamo has been the brave postmodernist in Finnish sculpture, bringing colours, mischievous humour and the softness of curves into the constructively strict abstract expression.
