After a few years exploring improvised electronics, field recording, ambient music and “pure sound” – both through live performance and recorded pieces on labels including Infant Tree, Phinery and Vertical Music – Rasmus Östling’s recent work has focused mainly on anachronistic and referential art.

At MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Centre Östling will perform an interpretation of his most recent recorded work, The Influence of Transcription (Pentiments, 2024), a modified dialogue with Swedish Fluxus artist Bengt af Klintberg. Themes of the piece range from early Fluxus recollections and a mysterious art figure in Stockholm to af Klintberg’s involvement in the academical life of folkloristics.

Outside of his artistic practice Östling runs Brouwnian Movement, a web archive for time-based art and phenomena. He is also active as event-organiser in Pori, Turku, and Helsinki.
