Eloquence of the imaginary

Krump is the acronym for Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise.
Krump is a dance that originated in the poor neighbourhoods of Los Angeles in the 2000s. This dance, which is non-violent despite its fast movements and aggressive appearance, aims to be a dance representing “life”. A veritable danced gospel, krump is an urban dance with a claim and an outlet: an exercise in energy control, a return to oneself to embody a character, between letting go, control and isolation of movement, from impulse to impact. A highly codified dance, the krump
movement calls for people to speak out within a circle and to experiment with different states of the body. Each movement is inhabited.

The workshop is led by French dancer-choregrapher Nach, who’s performance Cellule is part of the URB 25 festival programme in Thu 5 June at 19.00 & Sat 7.6. 15.00.

Nach

Nach is a French dancer and choreographer, who discovered krump at 22 after watching Rize, David Lachapelle’s documentary. She soon began exploring the stage and the creative process, collaborating with artists like choreographer Heddy Maalem and musicians Koki Nakano and Ruth Rosenthal. In cinema, she worked with the Kourtrajmé collective on a project about transmission, body, and posture. In 2017, she created her first solo, Cellule, followed by Beloved Shadows in 2019 after a stay in Japan, where she explored Noh theatre, bunraku, and butoh dance. Committed to telling meaningful stories, Nach’s work blends dance, visual arts, and other artforms. Her works often interrogates femaleness and identity.
