Opening of the exhibition on Wednesday 25 June, 17:00 – 19:00
Opening remarks by Minka Heino, Chairperson of MUU
The opening program includes Maippi Ketola and Meri Hietala’s performative animation diary ”Meri and Maippi Are Playing”
Maippi Ketola’s exhibition includes sideshow posters that she has painted herself as a model. The exhibition also features documentary animations. In the animations, the artist does the same routines every morning for 54 days, and during that time she grew a real woman’s beard.
With her exhibition, Ketola wants to raise a flag for hairy women, for those who, out of shame, shave and hide their hair like she herself did before. Since then, Ketola has kept the beard and for this, a big thank you goes to all the passersby who treat her the same way they did before.
The exhibition is part of the official program of Helsinki Pride 2025.

The second part of the exhibition, I Want to See What I Look Like (part 2), is on display at MUU Window (Jätkäsaari, Välimerenkatu 15, Helsinki) from 26 June to 10 August 2025. The window exhibition is open 24 hours a day.
Maippi Ketola’s work has been supported by the Kone Foundation / Saari Residence and Visek.
OPENING PROGRAM 25 June 2025 at 17:00 – 19:00
We are multidisciplinary artist duo Maippi Ketola and Meri Hietala, house mates from Hämeenlinna, Finland. We are making together shared diary-based videoperformances animating our bodies while living our daily life. We started this shared diary project Maippi ja Meri leikkii / Meri and Maippi Are Playing in Autumn 2023 when Meri moved to Maippi´s guest room.
We aim to capture our everyday life as video-like as possible for our animated diary. Our shooting speed is 1 frame / 5 seconds. Our play is very slow. Although the end result is close to a normal speed, during the shooting the world comes to a standstill. There is nothing more than a tiny little movement, every five seconds.
You are most welcome to join or observe our play at the opening of the exhibition!
